Loss of Florida State Funding for the Arts in the Public Schools? How the Jacksonville Community Benefits from the local Arts.

Rhonda Stampalia is a dance teacher at Douglas Anderson school of the Arts in Jacksonville, Florida. Stampalia grew up in northern New York.

She started her dancing career in New York where she took dance classes in the city. From New York she moved to Jacksonville, Florida to continue her dancing career where she worked as a professional ballet dancer. Later in her career as a professional dancer, she was offered to choreograph a piece for the Douglas Anderson dance recital, which is where her teaching career began.

She has worked as a dance teacher for Douglas Anderson for a little over 28 consecutive years. Stampalia choreographs two recital pieces during the academic year. The first recital piece is created in the fall, late August and early September and performed by the dance students in early December late November. The second recital is created in early January and late February and the recital is performed in May. The parents and guardians of the students as well as family and friends are given the opportunity to attend the student recital in the Douglas Anderson auditorium.

There has been some recent concern with the funding for the dance department as well as the rest of the arts offered at Douglas Anderson. Douglas Anderson is a public high school that relies on funding from the state of Florida, and budgets have been changing for public high schools throughout the country. Mr. and Mrs. Smith are parents of two ballet dancers in Douglas Anderson. The Smiths have suggested that the school could become a private institution to avoid the constant fluctuation of funding in the education system from the state. The Smiths have suggested that Douglas Anderson could seek out other ways of funding for the school.

Stampalia also choreographs the First Coast in the Nutcracker in Jacksonville at the Florida Theater. The Jacksonville Symphony is also apart of the annual performance of the Nutcracker. The First Coast Nutcracker is a large event that involves many parts of the community. The casting for the December performance begins in September and rehearsals last until show time in mid December.
Rhonda Stampalia has a true passion for the arts in the Jacksonville, Florida community and her work and time has rewarded the community with breathtaking performances.

The Fedex Terminal is the closest environment to Santa’s workshop. Consumers all around the world order products online and arrange for their items to be delivered to their house, apartment, or office work space; however not many consumers stop to question the delivery process of their item. Mr. Andrew, a loyal costumer of Advocare Sport Nutrition, receives a package from Advocare once a month and has not given a lot of thought into the time a energy that goes into making the delivery to his apartment possible by stating, “I get so stocked when I see a package at door when I get home from work and I don’t really think about specifically how it got there. Like everyone I see delivery people out and about during the day but I don’t think too much about the specific delivery process.”

The employees of Fedex recognize their tasks at the terminal as a daily routine and do not give a lot of thought to the process of package delivery. A Fedex Ground delivery man states, “Once I got the routine down of which packages go in the truck first ect. ect. I didn’t think about who was getting the package or where it came from, I just follow what fells right. I do love it when I have to get a signature for the package I deliver and the customer is so happy to see me and get their package it kind of makes me feel like I am Santa Clause bringing toys everywhere.” The Fedex terminal is truly a hidden world of package delivery. Surfers and Rip Tides

As along as tides shift, rip tides will always pose a threat to swimmers and surfers. The surfers of Vilano Beach in St. Augustine however take their chances when trying to catch some waves. Surfer, father, and businessman, Steve Williams expresses that he does not underestimate rip tides by stating, “I don’t think about rip tides as much as I should when I am out surfing by myself, but when I am surfing with my daughter I think about all the hazards; rip tides begin one of the hazards.”

Williams is not the only one that does not think often about the dangers of rip tides . The OceanView Lodge, a hotel located just off Vilano Beach in St. Augustine FL, does not typically warn their guests about rip tides at the beach. However the Vilano beach services does put up colored flags to indicate the measure of danger of a rip tides. Rip tides are not going anywhere but to work around the dangerous issue of the matter is to educate the surfers and swimmers that utilize the ocean says Williams. March 8, 2017
